About me
Jaylene Freeman holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a minor in Business from Kansas State University and a Master of Arts in Education from Baker University. She has spent her career dedicated to preparing students for life beyond the classroom through innovative, hands-on learning experiences.Throughout her teaching career, Jaylene taught nearly all of the business and technology course offerings, where she discovered a passion for real-world learning later in her career. This passion led her to found a student-run enterprise within the Marketing program and to collaborate with the district Technology Department to grow a student-led Chromebook Repair Shop for Information Technology students—both of which provided authentic, career-connected learning experiences.Jaylene’s commitment to excellence in education has been recognized through multiple honors, including being named Gardner Edgerton High School Teacher of the Year in 2018 and USD 231 Secondary Kansas Teacher of the Year in 2022.She has served as the USD 231 Career and Technology Coordinator since July 2018 and added a new district leadership role in July 2024 as the Real World Learning Coordinator. In this role, Jaylene works to create meaningful opportunities for students, partners with teachers to enhance curriculum through a career-focused lens, and builds strong relationships with local business and industry. She finds this work incredibly rewarding and is passionate about ensuring students graduate with the skills, experiences, and connections needed for future success.
